Vice President, Creative, King Features
Frank T. Caruso joined King Features
Syndicate in 1987 as Art Director after an early career as a freelance
cartoonist and designer with a number of leading publications. In 1992,
he was named Creative Director, Licensing, where he served as the
department head for domestic and international licensing and
merchandising worldwide. Currently, Frank is involved in the
development of new King Features licensing properties, and supervises
all creative aspects of the company's internet, animation, and
promotional activities. He oversees the creative supervision for the
licensing of Betty Boop, Popeye and other classic
King Features comic properties worldwide. During his tenure, Caruso was
responsible for the creative supervision of all King Features
properties in Toon Lagoon at Universal Studios' new Islands of
Adventure, Orlando, including the attractions, retail shops, product
and restaurant designs. In addition, Caruso supervised the creative
development of all King Features Syndicate character-properties
designed for the MGM Grand, Las Vegas, which were licensed for use
throughout the hotel-resort complex. Caruso also played an instrumental
creative role in the development of "Baby Popeye and Friends", a new
licensing initiative for King Features inspired by the success of Popeye
and the birth of his own twins. The concept has been well received in
the international marketplace and Caruso's animated video won a 2000
Telly award in the Children's Audience Category. Caruso graduated from
The School of Visual Arts, New York, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts
Degree. He has worked with Scholastics Alliance for Young Artists and
Writers, and is a member of New York's Society of Illustrators.
