President, Justice for Children
Randy Burton is the founder and
spokesperson for the national child advocacy group, Justice For
Children and a law partner with the firm Moerer and Burton in Houston,
Texas. He is also a former Assistant District Attorney for the Harris
County District Attorney's Office in Houston, where he was Chief
Prosecutor of the Family Offenses Section. While there, he prosecuted
several hundred cases and supervised the training of fellow
prosecutors. He has also conducted numerous training seminars for area
police agencies, teacher organizations, and medical professions
concerning the identification of and reporting of child abuse. Mr.
Burton gained particular notoriety for his special investigations into
the reporting and prosecution of child abuse cases, has appeared on
local and national television, and is the author of numerous articles
concerning his child advocacy work.
Mr. Burton holds a business degree from Yale University and a law
degree from South Texas College of Law. He spent nine years in the
finance area of the oil and gas industry in Houston which has provided
him with an extensive knowledge of the oil and gas business. Since the
formation of Moerer & Burton in 1990, Mr. Burton has maintained an
active civil trial practice with emphasis on general commercial
litigation, deceptive trade practice litigation, and administrative law.
Mr. Burton has gained particular notoriety for his special
investigations into the reporting and prosecution of child abuse cases,
has appeared on local and national television, and is the author of
numerous articles concerning his child advocacy work. He has received
numerous awards for his work with abused and neglected children. The
most recent being The 1999 Kim Houston Award presented by The Victims'
Resource Institute with the University of Houston Psychological
Research and Services Center awarded to the individual who has made
outstanding contribution to improve the lives of victims of crime in
the Harris County area and, in 1998, the City of Houston's 14th Annual
Mayor's Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service in the Social Service
Category.
