Dr. Adelaide Daniels Key, is a community volunteer, an entrepreneur and a philanthropic humanitarian. She is the mother of four grown children, grandmother of seven, and great-grandmother of one.

Dr. Key attended the George School in Pennsylvania and the Women's College of the University of North Carolina, which is now the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

She grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina, lived most of her life in Macon County, North Carolina, but has been in Asheville, North Carolina since 1987. While in Macon County she served on the Fontana Regional Library Board and the Macon County Library Board. She was instrumental in helping get the Macon County library built.

Through the years, Dr. Key has also done her due as a scout leader for both boys and girls. She ran her own gourmet gift shop and catering business in Franklin, North Carolina, the Pantry Key, for several years. She was the former owner of The Mountaineer Publishing Company, Inc. in Waynesville, North Carolina, and has served as a Director for the Raleigh News and Observer. In 1990, she founded the Adelaide Worth Daniels Foundation, a charitable organization that has served as benefactor to numerous worthwhile projects focusing on health, children and education. Dr. Key is President of the foundation.

Currently and in the recent past, Dr. Key has served on a multitude of boards (over 30) including hospitals, universities, foundations, and a variety of other humanitarian organizations. Her board work more directly relating to children include the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina, STEAM-Asheville (a program serving at-risk high school students), YWCA, the United Way, The Health Adventure, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, amongst others.

Her most recent honors include a lifetime achievement award, an honorary degree, an alumni award, citizen awards, and fundraising awards, not to mention her endowments to local institutions of higher learning. In almost every facet of her life she has been distinguished as a leader, benefactor and participant in the creation of a better future for our children.
