North Carolina: computer technicians must report Print E-mail
Wednesday, 11 July 2007 19:00

Last year, PROTECT reported on New York Times Magazine columnist Randy Cohen, who advised computer technicians not to report child pornography they found in the workplace (link)

Cohen's bad advice column, published under the name "The Ethicist" was undoubtedly clipped out and tacked to cubicle walls all over America. Well, here's some better advice for the IT professionals in North Carolina, from a straight-shooting lawmaker deep in the heart of NASCAR country, Karen Ray (R-Iredell): report it or go to jail. Ray, who has supported PROTECT's efforts in the North Carolina General Assembly, just won passage of legislation that makes it a crime for computer technicians and photo developers to fail to report child pornography they find in the course of their work. Congratulations and thank you Rep. Ray.
