Judge grants mistrial for porn case Print E-mail

The trial of a former police officer charged with sexually abusing his daughter and possessing child pornography was called off Thursday.

The Anchorage Daily News reports that the defense request for a mistrial was granted because the "circumstances of the case suddenly changed."  Prosecutors couldn't find the victim and wanted to go trial without her.  Wednesday, they found her.  The defense attorney then said he needed more time to rework his defense and presentation.

The defendant was arrested in 2005 after police were told that he had purchased child pornography on the Internet.  A search of his computer found sexually explicit images of children.  A short time later, allegations were made that he had abused his daughter.

A new trial date has yet to be set.  He faces charges of child pornography possession and the sexual abuse of a minor.
