Neighborhood children were often allowed to play with a San Tan Valley, Arizona man’s grandchildren. The suspect, now under arrest on four counts of aggravated assault, was sometimes referred to as the “neighborhood grandpa.”
Allegations were made after two girls, five and eight years old, came home and told their father the man had kissed them, used his tongue, and kissed their stomachs. The father immediately called police.
San Tan Valley Today quoted Sheriff Babeu, “No child should ever have to be victimized by a sexual predator… It is very important for parents to have open communications with their children as the parents of these two victims did and immediately report this type of behavior to law enforcement. The majority of sexually abused children never report being victimized. Sexual predators cultivate trust with their victims and their families, then gradually progress their assault onto their victims. Parents should keep a watchful eye on who ever they entrust with the care of their children.”
Police are investigating the possibility of more victims because so many children had been to the home to play with the man’s grandchildren.
When police first spoke to the suspect, he was quoted as saying, “I kissed the girls on the lips, and they must have ran back and told their dad, I messed up, I should not have kissed them.” He is reported to have also told the police he has Hepatitis C.
