On Friday, the Newswire carried an appeal to anti-child exploitation investigators to begin an independent public dialogue about the work they do. There's an obvious example already underway in Arizona.

Det. Sgt. Frank Kardasz, commander of the Arizona ICAC task force and a writer and teacher on law enforcement ethics, hosts an extensive website and blog with regular news about ICAC work and child exploitation. Dr. Kardasz shows himself to be a man who doesn't look to Washington for wisdom and leadership when it comes to protecting children.

If you haven't visited Kardasz.org, we recommend it. Be sure to read the extensive article, "Investigating Internet crimes against children: Seeking a new law enforcement paradigm." Here's an excerpt:

"In years past, law enforcement had wait for reports of child abuse before investigations could begin. But today, using undercover techniques and the Internet, investigators can seek out and identify abusers. Although this is one of the greatest advancements in the history of the enforcement of crimes against children, law enforcement still cannot take full advantage of this innovation."
