A former Montessori school teacher has been convicted of child neglect after leaving her two-year old in the car and taking her pet shi tzu shopping at Neiman-Marcus.

According to the East Valley Tribune in Phoenix, Gardenia Zakrewski-Johansson asked parking valets to watch her sleeping child in a parking garage while she shopped for about half an hour. The paper reports that employees of a Scottsdale, Arizona store came forward to tell police the woman had also asked them to watch her child while going to Starbucks the previous week. When told Zakrewski-Johansson was sentenced to probation and parenting classes, the valet said, "You're jokin' me."
