A Connecticut homeowner renovating his basement found a hidden storage compartment filled with boxes holding an estimated 50,000 photographic slides and 8mm movies of children being sexually displayed and assaulted, reports WTNH Television.

Police say the stockpile was created by the late Dr. George Reardon, once Chief of Endocrinology at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, who might have preyed up "hundreds of young people" over a period of decades. They released a photo of the hidden storage area, showing a file cabinet and boxes stacked from floor to ceiling behind removed paneling, with slides spilling onto the floor. The victims appearing in the images and movies were as young as six years old. Reardon lost his Connecticut medical license in 1995 for suspicion of producing child pornography and surrendered his New York license in 1997. Investigators are attempting to identify victims.
