Registered Sex Offender cuts off GPS monitor Print E-mail
Wednesday, 11 August 2010 00:00
Convicted of rape in 2004, a registered sex offender ran free for over two weeks after cutting off his GPS monitor. Parole officers are alerted immediately when a monitoring device is cut off. A warrant was issued and the fugitive apprehension team was notified.

The public was not made aware of the situation. KGNET contacted authorities to find out why, but their calls were not answered.

He is now charged with raping and kidnapping one teen and attempting to kidnap and rape another teen. Fox News reported that the man has a history of violating parole. He was released from prison in March.

The suspect was found after a police officer saw a van with a plate number that matched one provided by a purse-snatching victim.

Fox News quoted two PROTECT friends in their article:

Harriet Salarno, Crime Victims United, "These people cannot be cured. So why are we letting them out? You can control a GPS monitor just so much."

Todd Spitzer, Orange County prosecutor and former state Assemblyman, "These are sick, demented, perverted individuals. The only solution is to lock them up and throw away the key."
