Three PROTECT representatives were in Annapolis yesterday, talking with lawmakers about Maryland's refusal to make child pornography a felony.
One of our delegation met with a top member of the House
leadership--those elected officials of the majority party who make the
rules and enforce party discipline. The politician compared child
pornography possession to marijuana possession and said he needed proof
that weak child pornography laws actually hurt children. PROTECT makes
every effort to resolve these types of misunderstandings quietly and
peacefully, so we'll be providing that evidence soon.
In the meantime, for all of those politicians who have said to us (in
one way or another) that they'll start paying attention when the media
shows up, we have only this to say: we'll talk to your voters directly,
through their mailboxes, email accounts, over the airwaves and in
30-second television ads. Don't worry about the six o'clock news.
