Anything but prison? Print E-mail

Some people will do anything to avoid the simple, obvious solutions.

In Massachusetts, Governor Mitt Romney plans to spend $1 million to place satellite GPS tracking bracelets on the State's most dangerous "Level 3" sex offenders--after they've been set free on probation or parole. PROTECT endorses long-term, intensive supervision for child molesters upon release from prison, but we fear the Massachusets plan is the latest variation on a troubling theme: America's public servants finding new, creative and cheap alternatives to incarceration for those who prey on America's children... and then giving citizens little more than a heads up with internet registries and high tech gimmicks. We have a suggestion: if the State of Massachusetts really wants to know exactly where their convicted child predators are at all hours, it should stop releasing them early on parole.
