Minnesota sentencing weak... but transparent Print E-mail

Prosecutors in Washington County, Minnesota might have offered a shameful sentence to a child pornography trafficker this month, but they can boast about one thing: transparency

When 64-year old Alan Wirth Atwood of Stillwater, Minnesota got probation for child pornography crimes, PROTECT began looking into what kind of sentences other criminals there were getting. What we found was one of the most open and publicly accessible websites we've seen showing the dispositions of criminal cases handled by the prosecutors office. If you're interested in how to shine the sunlight of accountability on the justice system, it's worth taking a few minutes to see how one county is giving the public access to information that could be used to protect children.
