Meet Judge Bill Skinner of Mississippi Print E-mail
Sunday, 10 June 2007 19:00

When it comes to protecting children, it's actions that matter, not words. But sometimes telling it like it is... is action. Take Hinds County Youth Court Judge Bill Skinner, for example.

Judge Skinner is a former officer with the Jackson, Mississippi Police Department. Now he's speaking out from the bench about how that Department is not serious about investigating crimes against children. Skinner says the JPD refuses to investigate many sexual abuse cases, wanting only slam-dunk cases and expressing worry about false accusations. "We're talking about children victims," says the Judge. "I'm talking about rapes; I'm talking about heinous rapes with these kids. I don't understand this." Skinner says he recently took a case away from JPD and gave it to the Sheriff's Department. "They made an arrest. And now we're setting the case for trial."

The Jackson Police "do not have a better friend," says the former cop. "If they will come into court and do their job, I will do my job."
