Sweetheart sentence for principal, Boy Scout leader Print E-mail
Wednesday, 02 April 2008 19:00

Prosecutors in Greene County, Missouri had all the evidence they needed to put away a pedophile school principal and Boy Scout leader, but they decided on a sweetheart sentence instead this week.

Gary Rademacher, 54, was convicted of possessing over 1,000 movies and images of children being sexually assaulted, say authorities. But according to assistant prosecutor Russell Dempsey, it wasn't like he was caught with crack or anything serious. "He wanted from day one to take responsibility for his actions," said Dempsey, who offered the perpetrator five years of probation and no prison time.

The understanding attitude towards criminals who prey on children must be catching on in Greene County, thanks in part to the nationwide fever for sex offender registration. "The stigma for his crimes will likely outlive Rademacher's probation," opines the Springfield News-Leader. "Even if he satisfies the five-year stint with no violations, he'll be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life."

No word on the stigma faced by the child victims.
