Nevada Judge Steven Elliott has sentenced Edwin "Big Bird" Sevrence to back-to-back life terms in prison for crimes against his young daughter.
"Sevrence and his wife, Dolores, had 10 children, all removed from
their custody because of abuse and neglect allegations in several
states," reports the Reno Gazette-Journal.
According to the paper, the adoptive parents of four of the children,
including the victim in the case before Judge Elliott, asked the judge
for a tough sentence.
"A maximum sentence would be an affirmation to our children and others
that standing up for yourself and speaking out against those who have
harmed you physically and emotionally is imperative to stop child
abusers and deter those who would mistreat the most helpless members of
society," said the children's new mother.
