An 18-year old New Jersey high school junior was arrested last week, after police say she threw her infant out the window of her apartment building onto a pile of garbage.

The baby survived. Investigators found another baby nearby, who they say had been in the refuse for a year. Police say both babies were the result of rape by the girl's father, Jose Julio Ventura, 44. According to the Jersey Journal newspaper, Ventura "would pick up his daughter every day for lunch, drop her back at school, and then come for her at the end of the day." The girl's school has nine guidance counselors on staff, but school staff said they never suspected anything was wrong. Neighbors and classmates said they did. The girl is charged with murder and attempted murder. Jose Ventura has been charged with sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child and child abuse.
