The chance meeting of Sheriff Bob Skipper, 70, and an unaccompanied 5 year-old girl who wandered into his parking lot has led to the arrest of a man for child abuse.

The Oregonian reports that Skipper, who once worked as a child abuse crimes investigator, ran across the girl, began questioning her and brought her into his station.

"According to court documents, the girl told [Lt. Jason] Gates that she did not like her mother's boyfriend and described what the boyfriend sometimes did to her, saying it sometimes hurt," says the paper.

The child was then interviewed and given a medical exam at a multidisciplinary interview center. "According to a court affidavit, the girl drew pictures showing how she had been sexually abused."

Deputies arrested a 29 year-old suspect, whom the girl's mother had let live in her home "on and off for the past two years."

"[The mother] said about a year ago, her daughter drew a sexually explicit picture and showed it to her saying that [the suspect] was abusing her, according to the court document. She said she did not believe her daughter."
