OC Grand Jury: Make resources more equal for children Print E-mail

Children living at Orange County's Orangewood Children's Home are living in "relative luxury" while those in detention centers have "crying needs" and get far less, says a California Grand Jury.

The Orange County Grand Jury, part of a unique California tradition that gives grand juries sweeping "watchdog" and investigatory powers, has released a report entitled, "They Are All Children: Addressing the Inequity in the Resources Available for Orange County's Most Vulnerable Children."

From the Report: "The Department of Social Services spends millions of dollars annually on abused, neglected and abandoned children, while the Probation Department struggles to address and rehabilitate a much larger group, the delinquent juvenile population, many of whom have also been neglected and abused. It is time to focus on the latter group and expand the facilities and services that do make a difference for that group."
