Federal judge: one day for school teacher Print E-mail

A federal judge has handed down his verdict on nearly two years of work to stop an elementary school teacher caught with child sex abuse videos: one day in jail.

Federal Judge Lawrence F. Stengel of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania sentenced Salvatore Graci, 33, to a single day in jail for child pornography crimes. Graci was a former fifth and sixth-grade teacher.

"Court documents... say that credit card records revealed Graci successfully subscribed and received access to three different child pornography Web sites... during his time in the Souderton Area School District," writes The Reporter of Lansdale, Pennsylvania.

Graci's defense strategy was to claim he did not intend to sexually exploit children, he was simply trying to learn how to have sex with a virgin. Judge Stengel seems to have bought that argument, bringing a major case by Immigration and Customs Enforcement and federal prosecutors to a fruitless end.

Stengel was appointed to the federal bench in 2004 by President George Bush.
