Here's a news lead every elected lawman in America should be looking
for: "The Bradley County Sheriff's Department is readying an all-out
assault on child porn traders and predators."
That's also a news story that should make PROTECT members everywhere proud. In 2007, PROTECT won new state funding in Tennessee to combat child exploitation. The Knoxville Police Department's Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force didn't waste time. Under the leadership of Police Chief Sterling Owen , the KPD has taken the funds and gotten busy recruiting, training and equipping regional law enforcement agencies. With each new agency enlisted in their war, the KPD knows there will be more predators stopped and more child sexual assault victims rescued.
That's where Bradley County Sheriff Tim Gobble comes in. Gobble gets it. "I know there is a lot that's going uninvestigated and not being prosecuted," the sheriff tells WRCB News. "By becoming part of a regional concept sharing information and forensic technologies, we're going to be able to put more emphasis on it."
This is exactly how it should work, and other sheriffs and police chiefs could learn from Sheriff Gobble and Police Chief Owen. Admit there's a crisis. Dedicate resources, not just rhetoric, to solving it. And let them know you're coming!
