PROTECT Supporters Get Results from Hard Work on Alicia’s Law Print E-mail

Here’s proof positive that funding ICAC Task Forces interdict predators and protect children.

PROTECT members and supporters fought hard to get Alicia’s Law passed in Virginia and the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Forces funded.  Now, another dangerous predator has been stopped.

The suspect was first arrested on felony charges for crimes against a 14-year old girl.  The suspect started communicating with the girl through Facebook.  Law enforcement, with a search warrant, removed a laptop computer from the suspect’s home.  In just a few days the charges had increased, adding the production of child pornography.

The victims not only face the horror of the crimes committed against them, they face medical treatment for STD’s. The suspect was charged with four counts of knowingly infecting someone with Hepatitis, Syphilis or HIV.

WSET-TV/ABC13 quotes Lt. Michael Harmony, ICAC Task Force:  “He’s been charged with crimes where he could have infected other people.  We basically refer to these as an onion case because just like an onion, you peel one layer off of it and then you see another layer. There’s a large number of people that we have to contact to find out whether or not they are actual victims and if they are victims, whether or not they are minors.”

Investigators are working to clear a very long list of possible victims.  The suspect had a Facebook page with more than 1,500 friends, many of them teenaged girls and local high school students.
