A 28-year old aide to U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (WA) was arrested last week by the FBI for attempted child exploitation.

According to news reports, an undercover investigator was chatting online with the suspect and offered to arrange a sexual encounter with a 13-year old child. "I'll be there," the Senate staffer allegedly wrote. He was arrested at the pre-arranged meeting site.

Senator Cantwell issued a statement saying, ""Late Friday afternoon the FBI informed our office that a Senate employee was arrested. The employee was immediately fired. Our office has and will continue to fully cooperate with the ongoing federal criminal investigation. Senator Cantwell has zero tolerance for crimes against children."
