A Milwaukee city alderman charged with child abuse has pled "no contest" in a plea agreement that could allow him avoid a criminal record. Ashanti Hamilton was brought up on charges after he was accused of repeatedly hitting his 6 year-old daughter with a clothes hanger.

He reached a plea agreement with prosecutors on April 30. The plea bargain will defer prosecution for 12 months.

If Ashanti complies with court orders for 12 months, the charges will automatically be dismissed.
